Women across the nation are going pink for the month of October, honoring and supporting National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer does not discriminate; it affects young and old, moms, sisters, aunts, grandmas, cousins and friends — who get together for 31 days to fight against the same cause.

Breast cancer survivors raise awareness of the importance of annual mammograms, and fundraisers are organized with all the proceeds going towards such causes as the American Cancer Society, or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Brooklyn will host numerous events.

On October 4, there will be a Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser honoring survivors and family members who have been affected. Called Pink Heels, the dress code requires ladies to wear pink heels and men to wear a pink tie or a pink accessory boosting consciousness. Honorees include: Danielle Lewis-Johnson, Kersandra Washington, Minister Marva Thomas and Tracy Kirkland. Tickets cost $40, and donations and advance tickets can be purchased at http://pinkheelsfundraiser-efbevent.eventbrite.com/. It will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the “For my sweets lounge,” located in 1103 Fulton Street.

On October 13, there will be a breast cancer reflection luncheon happening at Jeffrey’s, 426A Marcus Garvey Boulevard. Proceeds will go to the Cancer Research Institute. Donations can be made at http://breastcancerdonation.eventbrite.com/. The event will include guest speakers, raffles and prize giveaways, as well as a balloon launch in memory of those who lost their battle against the disease. Get there at 2 p.m., it lasts until 6 p.m.

Get ready for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, happening in Prospect Park on Saturday, October 21, where hundreds of women unite for the good cause. Anyone can participate in the three and a half mile walk. Registration begins at 9 a.m. Recommended entrance is at 16th Street and Prospect Park Southwest. Walk straight onto Center Drive and continue into the park. To register or donate, visit: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/MakingStridesAgainstBreastCancer/MSABCFY13EA?pg=entry&fr_id=47318.

On October 27, A Cosmo Girls Glam Event, which raises funds to battle two scourges, breast cancer and domestic violence, will take place in the Dumbo Loft, located at 160 Water Street. Live performances start at 6:30 p.m. with complimentary Hors d’oeuvres, and a Hair Runway Show. Advance tickets are $20, with more tickets sold at the door.
