NEW YORK (AP) — A New York assemblyman is filing a lawsuit charging a group home where his disabled son resides with abuse.

Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg told The New York Times the suit will be filed Monday in Brooklyn federal court. It’ll name AHRC Nassau and Dwayne Edwards, the employee Weisenberg says abused his son who suffers from cerebral palsy three years ago.

AHRC is a local chapter of the nation’s largest provider of service to people with developmental disabilities.

Weisenberg says Edwards was fired but now works as a caregiver at the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County. The association didn’t return calls for comment.

Edwards denied he ever abused Weisenberg’s son.

An AHRC Nassau spokeswoman confirmed the firing stemmed from an abuse investigation.

Weisenberg is seeking compensatory and punitive damages.
