With the opening of Barclays Center, Captain Michael Ameri of the 78th Precinct is seeking to assure local residents that they are safe and that the and the NYPD are ready to tackle any issue that may come up.

The 78th Precinct has added eight new officers, including one lieutenant and one sergeant, specifically to work towards traffic and general safety surrounding the arena (the arena itself is staffed by between 80-150 private security officers).

In addition, the precinct and local parking garages are in communication so that traffic can be directed to garages that have room. Ameri also noted that all area precincts are working together to ensure that regular neighborhood patrols are not affected negatively.
