62nd Precinct

Between Thursday, August 16 and Wednesday, August 22, the 62nd Precinct received reports of one auto theft, two burglaries, six robberies, four grand larcenies, one identity theft and three felony assaults.

Compared to last week, there were more robberies and felony assaults. Compared to the same time last month (Thursday, July 19 through Wednesday, July 25) there were more felony assaults.

SURPRISE SPLASH

Police arrested a 47-year-old black male for assaulting officers with an unknown liquid, on Wednesday, August 22 at 9:30 p.m. at his West Fourth Street home.

The arresting officers were responding to a family dispute at the location. When they arrived, the apartment was open, but the perp allegedly told them, “I don’t f— need you” and slammed the door. After refusing to cooperate, the perp said, “Will throw something at our heads.” When the officers exited the building, an unknown liquid hit their heads and forearms from a fifth floor apartment. The perp was then arrested.

LOW BLOW

On Thursday, August 16 at 11:30 p.m., a 21-year-old white Hispanic male was being led into a cell at the 62nd Precinct by a police officer, when he recklessly flailed his arms and legs, striking the officer in the groin and left hand, causing pain. The officer was taken to Maimonides Medical Center.

MENACING THE MECHANIC

On Friday, August 17 at 2:15 p.m., a 29-year-old Asian male was working in an auto garage on 18th Avenue near Bath Avenue when a 30-year-old white male said he wanted to get his car fixed. After he was given an estimate, the perp reportedly said he wanted the job done for less, then choked the victim, causing lacerations on the left side of this neck. The perp left the location, taking a wallet with credit cards left unattended on top of a car. He threatened to kill the victim, before fleeing in a silver Ford pick-up truck.

EARLY BURGLES

On Tuesday, August 21 at 6:30 a.m., an unknown perp entered a Bay 10th Street home belonging to a 65-year-old white male, and removed debit and credit cards and jewelry before fleeing. Neighbors say they saw and heard nothing unusual.

On Monday, August 20 at 10:30 a.m. a perp entered an Avenue S home belonging to a 28-year-old Asian female through an unlocked, open side window, took her cell phone and fled eastward on Avenue S.

PUNCHING PUNKS

Police arrested a 38-year-old white male on Wednesday, August 22 at 11:20 a.m. at 84th Street and 20th Avenue for allegedly robbing a 22-year-old white male.

The perp reportedly punched the victim in the face and took $420 in cash from his hand and fled. After a positive canvass, the perp was arrested and the money was recovered.

A 38-year-old white female was walking home on Sunday, August 19 at 10:30 p.m. on West First Street near Kings Highway when a perp grabbed her purse, containing $100 and debit and credit cards, and punched her repeatedly before fleeing to Kings Highway.

DINE AND DASH

A 22-year-old Asian female was dining at an outside table on 86th Street near 15th Avenue on Monday, August 20 at 11 p.m. when a white male took her cell phone and walked away. When she approached him, the perp displayed a black firearm and ran on foot down Bay Eighth Street.

GUNPOINT ROBBERY

A 19-year-old white Hispanic male, who was an off-duty auxiliary police officer, was walking home on Friday, August 17 at 1:30 a.m. at 21st Avenue and Bay Ridge Avenue, when he was approached by two black males. One pointed a silver semi-automatic firearm at his head and stated, “Give me your phone. Don’t move, don’t run,” and took his phone, $30, debit and credit cards, and shield from his person, before crossing the street and fleeing westbound on Bay Ridge Avenue.

FAMILY VALUES?

A 34-year-old Hispanic male was delivering flyers to homes on 73rd Street near 20th Avenue on Friday, August 17 at 1:15 p.m. when he was approached by a 29-year-old black male with a box cutter, who threatened him and demanded money. Fearing for his safety, he gave $60 in cash to the perp, who then fled on foot into a nearby home.

After police investigated, they learned that the perp lives with his 59-year-old mother, who did state that the perp was her son and that she was aware the robbery occurred. Both mother and son were arrested.

UNLOCKED? UNLUCKY

A 46-year-old white female parked her car in her 64th Street driveway on Monday, August 20 at 11:45 a.m. When she returned, her debit and credit cards and driver’s license were missing from the car, which she had left unlocked.

On Sunday, August 19 at 7 p.m. a 26-year-old white male parked his car on 78th Street near 14th Avenue. When he returned, his wallet with debit and credit cards was missing from the car, which he had left unlocked.

MONKEY BUSINESS

A 30-year-old white female was at a veterinary clinic on Kings Highway near West Sixth Street on Friday, August 17 at 4:08 p.m., when a perp was buzzed in. He reportedly entered the hallway and took her purse, which was left unattended, into the bathroom and removed her wallet, containing credit and debit cards and a driver’s license.
