It is a definite case of Francophile’s delight this weekend in Brooklyn, as we host the biggest and best Bastille Day celebration in the US. But don’t worry too much about saving yourself for a round of Pétanque, lest you miss out on the arts, movie and music all over town this weekend…

1) Bastille Day on Saturday, 7/14
Dekalb Market 6-10 PM
Join the folks over at The Skint for live music, burlesque dancing, baguette eating, and photos of your and your friends having a  blast.

2) Bastille Day Block Party on Sunday 7/15
Smith Street (Carroll Gardens/Cobble Hill)
Revel at a celebration with something for everyone, from French cuisine to live music and a Petanque tournament.

3) Rooftop Films!

Friday and Saturday, times very

This Friday the 13th, Rooftop films will collaborate with Clermont-Ferrand for an experiment and party, with a program that includes animation, documentary and short film experimentations. Stay after for live music and a party into the evening. Click here for tickets and information.


4) Rollerderby at Abe Stark Arena, Coney Island

Saturday July 14, 5pm and 7pm
What better introduction to the world of rollerderby than a double header on the beach in Coney island. Saturday’s lineup features roller-greats including TEAM USA skaters “snot rocket science” and “Hurricane Heather.” Come out and support the Gotham Girls Roller Derby and find out what all the fuss is about! 5) Pharoahe Monch at Brooklyn Bowl
Sunday July 15th – Doors: 6pm Show: 8pm

Set your Sunday to the rhymes of native New Yorker Pharoahe Monch at The Brooklyn bowl, and lyrically let loose with J Ross Parrelli, Olamide, Aye James, and China Black. You’ll be doing something good for the community, too—proceeds from the event benefit the “More than Me Foundation,” helping and educating young girls in West Africa.

6) Talk with Curator Tamara Johnson of “Show me your glands– Saturday, Jly 14 at 4pm


“Show me your glands” had us intrigued at its name, but an opportunity to chat with the curator and learn more about the motivation behind this sculptural, linguistic, image, and video exhibition sounds too good to pass up. Find out about the artists and inspirations behind the exhibition through a discussion with curator Tamara Johnson. We’re intrigued. Tell us more?


7)The Jungle Book

This weekend- multiple performances

Puppetworks  338 Sixth Ave. at Fourth Street

For families, the only thing more fun than a live reenactment of The Jungle Book is one performed with puppetworks! Check out this performance, complete with songs, scenes and costumes, at Puppetworks and re-live Rudyard Kipling’s classic tale with the whole family.


8) ‘Stillspotting’ Staten Island
Telettrofono opens on Staten Island this weekend, and we can’t wait to check it out. Created by poet Mattea Harvey and sound artist Justin Bennet, this “Soundwalk” is sponsored by the Guggenheim’s already-renowned “stillspotting” project. Prepare for eye-opening insights into Staten Island and 90 minutes of soundwalking by the shoeline and through the St George neighborhood. 9) Free Yoga in Prospect Park

10) Saturday Night Fever
Prospect Park Bandshell – 7:30 pm
Celebrate Brooklyn! This Saturday with a special screening of Saturday Night Fever in Prospect Park. The night kicks off with a disco-themed yoga class hosted by Lululemon at 6:30, and then an intro set from Bee Gees tribute band TRADGEDY to get everyone in the mood.
