$500 stipend for Chicago trip

NEW YORK The American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division (ABA YLD) Assembly Annual Meeting is being held Aug. 3 and 4 in Chicago, Illinois. New York has one of the largest delegations in the ABA YLD Assembly, and the ABA is seeking interested New York young lawyers who would like to represent the state and bar association.

The Assembly is the policy-making body of the ABA Young Lawyers Division. The YLD Assembly precedes the ABA House of Delegates Mid-Year Meeting, and the vote of the YLD Assembly binds the delegates from the YLD to the ABA House.

All YLD Assembly Delegates from New York (other than the district representative) are appointed on a per-meeting basis, meaning each delegate must be re-appointed before attending any future meetings as a delegate to the Assembly.

The head of the New York YLD Delegation is Alena Shautsova, Esq., the New York district representative in the ABA YLD.

The Finance Committee of the New York State Bar Association has announced funding assistance for up to 11 New York Young Lawyer delegates to the ABA YLD Assembly Annual Meeting providing a $500.00 stipend for each of the 11 appointed delegates for the Chicago meeting, as it has done for recent past meetings.

Funding is contingent upon, among other things, the delegate being (1) a member of the NYSBA, (2) a member of the ABA YLD, and (3) satisfactorily attending the ABA YLD meetings (including the Assembly Meeting).

The appointment of delegates and award of stipends are on a first-received basis, for those individuals satisfying the above appointment criteria. We strongly encourage diverse candidates to apply.

If you are interested in seeking appointment as a New York Young Lawyer delegate to the ABA YLD Assembly this August in Chicago, please contact Michael L. Fox, Esq., the New York Young Lawyer delegate to ABA House of Delegates and chair of the NYSBA Young Lawyers Section at [email protected] and Alena Shautsova at [email protected] by Friday, July 6.
