A 30-by-50 foot above-ground pool will be installed at Brooklyn Bridge Park this summer and remain open for at least five more years/summers as part of an August, 2011, agreement between local politicians and the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation.

The new pop-up wading pool will sit on Pier 2 at Old Fulton Street and Furman Street, between Pierrepont and Clark Streets, and will be 3.5 feet deep – perfect for families of all ages. The pool will be surrounded by decks, a sandy artificial beach, and food vendors.

The BBPC’s Board of Directors approved the pool’s design and installation this week, which was welcome news to State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assemblymember Joan Millman, and Councilmembers Steve Levin and Brad Lander. In a statement, Squadron called the pool and any attendant recreation opportunities it brings “critical to the long-term success of Brooklyn Bridge Park” and the first step in making such activities permanent.

This news is just one of a slew of new projects set to or already taking place at and around the park, including a 115,000 square foot Fieldhouse near Pier 5,  the Photoville photo exhibition that starts this Friday, June 22, and several residential projects.

The Brooklyn Bridge Park pool joins the McCarren Park Pool in bringing back water-soaked fun to Brooklynites this summer.

The nearest subway stops are the A/C at High Street, the F at York Street, and the 2/3 at Clark Street.
