DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN — The Eagle has learned that a new Starbucks is planned for Downtown Brooklyn, this one on the Fulton Mall.

The store is planned for a one-story building at 348 Fulton St., adjacent to a Bank of America branch and across the street from the new Shake Shack pizza restaurant.

One can see that construction work is underway at the building and a check of Department of Buildings documents reveals an approved application to “renovate an existing store to be a

Starbucks coffee shop.”

The 1,334-square-foot space was most recently home to Porta Bella, a men’s clothing and shoe store.

The current ownership is identified as 348 Fulton LLC represented by Khaled Ashawy. The application was filed by Warren Schiffman Architect.

Attempts to reach the building owner and Starbucks by press time were unsuccessful.

According to the Starbucks website, there are nine coffee shops in and near the Downtown Brooklyn area — at 50 Court St., 6 MetroTech Center, 134 and 112 Montague St., 167 Court St. in Cobble Hill, 67 Front St. in DUMBO, 164 Smith St. in Boerum Hill and two at the Atlantic Terminal (one is inside the Target store).
