Botanic Garden Holding Its 2012 Plant Sale

The Brooklyn Botanic Garden has announced that the 2012 session of its famous plant sale will be held Wednesday, May 2. From 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Thursday, May 3, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Tented on the garden’s Cherry Esplanade, the sale this year emphasizes native plants.  There will be demonstrations and advisory events at the Wednesday session, beginning with a bonsai clinic from 10 a.m. to noon and  2-3 p.m., as well as advice on how to select annuals, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Advice on the care of shrubs, orchids and house plants will also be offered.

Admission to the sale is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors, with children under 12 (accompanied by adult) and members free.  Each paid admission gets a coupon for a free return visit to the garden.
The Botanic Garden, at 1000 Washington Avenue, is reachable by subway, taking the 2 or 3 to Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum, the 4 or 5 to Franklin Avenue, the Q, B. or S to Prospect Park.

And at Hoyt St.

The Hoyt Street Association is holding its annual plant sale the weekend of April 28–29 at the 110 Hoyt Street garage, near Pacific Street (no admission charge).

Volunteers to help with the sale are sought, and people wishing to buy plants can place orders by Tuesday, April 24.
