Good morning. Today is the 108th day of the year. It is the anniversary of the 1961 Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba, in which more than 1,500 CIA-trained Cuban exiles invaded Castro’s Cuba with the goal of capturing the island. The CIA overestimated the amount of support for the invasion among Cubans and didn’t develop sufficient sources of intelligence. Compounding difficulties, the White House didn’t provide enough air support once the forces were on the ground.

Well-known people who were born today include singer Victoria Beckham, sportscaster and former football player Norman “Boomer” Esiason, feminist writer Cynthia Ozick and actor Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings, Stormy Monday, Patriot Games).
