MANHATTAN — Eighty architecture magazines, fanzines and journals from more than 20 countries will be on exhibit beginning this week and continuing through Saturday, June 9, at the Storefront for Art in Architecture in Manhattan.

Titled “Archizines,” the combined exhibit-plus-research-project celebrates and promotes the resurgence of independent and alternative publishing practices.
With design by Giancarlo Valle, Isaiah King and Ryan Neiheiser, and graphic work by Benjamin Critton, the exhibition draws inspiration from “the quintessential New York model of publication display — the newstand — and turns it on its side,” organizers say.

Instead of a vertical two-dimensional billboard, the show will offer a horizontal three-dimensional field of objects. The 80 architecture publications will be displayed on delicate metal rods that sprout from the floor.

In conjunction with the exhibition, the “Archizines Manifesto Series on Publishing Practices” will take place from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, April 20, and from 2 to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday April 21.

The Storefront for Art in Architecture, at 97 Kenmare St., was founded in 1982.
