Good morning. Today is the 107th day of the year. It is the birth anniversary (1889) of famed British film comedian and director Charlie Chaplin, most famous for his character “The Little Tramp.” Chaplin came to the U.S. with a British vaudeville troupe that also included comedian Stan Laurel, and decided to stay in Hollywood. He achieved fame as a star in comedy shorts in the 1910s. In the 1920s, he branched out into full-length movies such as The Kid and The Gold Rush.

Chaplin resisted the coming of sound for many years and didn’t make an all-talking picture until The Great Dictator in 1940, although City Lights and Modern Times from the 1930s had musical soundtracks and sound effects.
