Technical Career Institute Opens in Bedford-Stuyvesant

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT —A grand opening celebration, ribbon-cutting and open house took place for the new location of the Technical Career Institute (TCI) in Bedford-Stuyvesant, a program of the NYC College of Technology (City Tech).

The site, at 1360 Fulton St. in the Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza, is described as an “amazingly new, clean, state-of-the-art facility and learning environment.”

The event attracted several political and business leaders, current students and faculty, plus a group of high school students interested in attending TCI.

Dr. John McGrath, TCI’s CEO, and Bill Talbot, its president, opened the doors of the brand new center, originally established in 1909 by Nobel Prize winner Giglielmo Marconi. They were joined by Congressman Edolphus Towns' chief of staff Albert Wiltshire.

“This is a major step for this area and community, and it is important that our children will have opportunities to learn, grow, have support from an excellent staff at TCI, and get placed in a great job,” Wiltshire said. “It is extremely impressive that the job placement rate for students at TCI is well above 90 percent. An education is the key to success, growth and securing a good and steady job.”

TCI’s broad-based curricula offer diverse state-of-the-industry training at the associate’s degree level taught by more than 300 highly qualified faculty.

Today, TCI serves more than 4,300 students in a spring or fall semester with 21 academic degree programs and three certificate programs that focus on engineering, information technology, healthcare, business, paralegal, new media technologies and many other career paths.
