Hundreds of worshippers thronged local streets on the evening of Good Friday, April 6, to walk in the annual Way of the Cross procession sponsored by a group of local Catholic parishes.

With somber faces, and holding lighted candles, the faithful trod the byways of Bensonhurst, beginning at 65th Street and 16th Avenue and culminating at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 15th Avenue and 72nd Street, to mark the solemn occasion.

The annual Way of the Cross was organized by the parishes of St. Finbar, St Athanasius, St. Bernadette, St. Dominic, St. Frances Cabrini, St. Mary Mother of Jesus, Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Rosalia/Regina Pacis and Sts. Simon and Jude along with the Knights of Columbus. It symbolizes Jesus Christ’s last journey before he was crucified, according to the Roman Catholic faith, and marks the end of Lent.
