While New Yorkers have been focusing on the four police officers who were wounded in a shootout with an armed man in Sheepshead Bay this past Saturday, another suspect shot at police officers in Red Hook on the same day. In this incident, the officers were unharmed, although the perpetrator was shot in the shoulder. The incident began around 3 a.m. when cops patrolling on Columbia Street near the Red Hook Houses saw a man drinking beer out of a can in public, a minor offense. When the officers approached him, the man ran away while firing several shots at them. The suspect, whose name was not given in reports, was arrested the following day in Far Rockaway.
