BROOKLYN  — A 100,000-square-foot rooftop farm is coming to Brooklyn.

A private company, Bright Farms, has announced plans to build a sprawling greenhouse on the roof of a former Navy warehouse.

It says the rooftop farm is expected to produce a million pounds of produce a year — without using dirt.

The 8-story warehouse was acquired by the city’s Economic Development Corporation.

According to The New York Times, construction is expected to begin in the fall. The first harvest is expected next spring.

When completed, the greenhouse would rank as the world’s largest rooftop far.

Another rooftop farm developer, Brooklyn Grange, is scheduled to open a 45,000-square-foot operation at the Brooklyn Navy Yard this spring, as previously noted by the Eagle.
