NEW YORK (AP) — The NYPD is investigating the fatal shooting of an off-duty auxiliary police officer in Brooklyn.

Police say 39-year-old Francky Aleger was found unconscious on East 95th Street and Glenwood Road around 6 p.m. Wednesday. He had a gunshot wound to the back.

Aleger, who lived nearby, was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His wife, Mislove Aleger, told WNBC television that Aleger was on his way to his security guard job at Mount Sinai Hospital.

He also volunteered as an auxiliary officer in the 13th Precinct in Manhattan.
