Dyker Park was filled with eager hunters this weekend, as part of an annual Easter Egg Hunt for local tykes on March 31.

The event, sponsored by the Thirteenth Avenue Merchants Association, the Dyker Heights Civic Association (DHCA), Congressmember Michael Grimm and State Senator Marty Golden, featured an afternoon filled with family-friendly activities, such as an egg and spoon race, face painting, a jelly bean count, a DJ, raffles and a special visit from the Easter Bunny himself.

“It went very, very well,” said Fran Vella-Marrone, president of DHCA, adding that about 300 to 400 kids attended. “We would have had more kids if the weather was better, but regardless of the fact, we had a big showing.”

Vella-Marrone said DHCA is already committed to being a sponsor again next year. “I think it was a success and this is something we can build in for the next year and the years after,” she told this paper. “The kids enjoyed themselves. They really had fun.”

Golden agreed. It has become a community tradition to host an Easter egg hunt in our parks so that our friends, families and neighbors can enjoy the afternoon and festivities,” he said. “This year’s rain kept some people home, but those who were there had a great time.
