A pregnant woman from Boerum Hill who suffered three seizures was able to survive and give birth thanks to doctors at Downstate Long Island College Hospital, according to the Daily News.

“It was simultaneously the worst night of my life and the best night of my life,” said Patrick Verel, husband of Kelly Verel, who was stricken with life-threatening eclampsia. Eclampsia, which involves seizures or a coma, occurs in one of every 2,000 to 3,000 pregnancies. Verel’s blood pressure was a dangerous 200 over 104, said Dr. Gopika Are, the obstetrician who performed the C-section.
