SUNSET PARK — Police are searching for a person who abandoned a baby boy in the lobby of a building in the Sunset Park section of Brooklyn.

Police say the 3-month-old baby was found strapped in a car seat at about 2 p.m. Saturday. A diaper bag with diapers and formula had been placed beside him.

The baby was taken to Lutheran Medical Center where he was found to be in good health. Police are still seeking information. If you have any information about this baby call 800-577-TIPS.

Lutheran is reaching out to the community to help build awareness for the Baby Safe Haven Law, which is meant to protect both babies and mothers. The Baby Safe Haven Law provides total secrecy if a mother delivers her baby (aged 5 days or less) into safe hands at a local Brooklyn hospital emergency room or to any firehouse in the event they do not want to continue caring for their infant.

A list of locations and more information on Brooklyn’s Baby Safe Haven Law can be found on the Brooklyn DA’s website.
