Members of Communications Workers of America Local 1109 marched from Cadman Plaza Park in Brooklyn to the Verizon corporate headquarters in Lower Manhattan late Thursday afternoon “to protest corporate greed and save 45,000 middle-class jobs,” in the words of Rolando Scott, president of CWA Local 1109. Union members have been working since August without a contract. Verizon responded that consumers are canceling their landlines “as they move to wireless, requiring the company and the unions to make tough choices that reflect new business realities.”
