BROOKLYN — Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts at Brooklyn College (BCBC) will commemorate Earth Day with its fifth annual National Grid Earth Day Celebration, which will take place on Sunday, April 22, at 3 p.m.

This free family event will take place next to the Walt Whitman Theater on the Brooklyn College campus immediately after a performance of the family musical Mufaro’s Beautiful Daughters — An African Tale, the fifth production of Brooklyn Center’s 2011-2012 Target FamilyFun series.

The National Grid Earth Day celebration is designed to educate families on how they can play a role in caring for the earth and creating a more sustainable future. Interactive family activities, educational materials, give-away items and items for sale will highlight the need for conserving energy, recycling in the home, and having a heightened awareness of the global environmental issues that we face today.
“Climate change and environmental responsibility are key values at National Grid, and we are proud to be partnering once again with BCBC to help educate families on how to use energy more efficiently,” said Ken Daly, president of National Grid New York.

Participants in this year’s celebration include Green Mountain Energy Company, which will bring its “Super Earth” mascot to teach people about renewable energy; the American Museum of Natural History’s moveable  exhibit Dinosaurs and Ancient Fossils; MiniMax Toys & Cuts, two Girl Scout troops and steel drummer Nydia “Liberty” Mata.
