Whole Foods to Open Store in Williamsburg, Fulfill Destiny
It may have taken Whole Foods eight years to get the go-ahead to build its first Brooklyn location in Gowanus, but now it seems that the flaxseed floodgates have officially opened on the borough.
Not surprisingly, Williamsburg, a known hub of moneyed goji berry enthusiasts, will be the next neighborhood to welcome the health food chain, which is referred to by some of its shrewder patrons as “Whole Paycheck.”
The grocer will be moving into 39,000 square feet of space at 242 Bedford Ave., according to the New York Post. Along with a cluster of luxury apartments that will go above the supermarket, the 150,000-square-foot development site at the corner of North 4th Street will also reportedly soon house a New York Sports Club on its first and second floors.
