CROWN HEIGHTS — Brooklyn Girl Film Festival, a new annual event that will take place from March 29 to 31, has announced its festival lineup.

This year’s festival will take place at Launchpad, a community space in Crown Heights.

The dramatic feature The People You Know will open the festival. This directorial debut by Elizabeth Spear of Austin, Texas, explores how a weekend with old friends might change relationships forever. The film was shot on the modest budget of $12,000.

Also featured will be The Big Bad, by New York City writer-producer Jessi Gotta. This horror feature tells the story of a broken woman obsessed with revenge who is desperately searching for the monster who destroyed her family when she unexpectedly finds herself in a surreal and frightening world.

Closing the festival is the comedy feature Knight Knight by British filmmaker Christina Bucher. Two saddle-sore knights go on a quest for love, adventure and comfortable underwear.

The festival will also feature many short films by New York City-based filmmakers as well as filmmakers from around the globe. Some local highlights include the world premiere sci-fi short, Passengers of 7D, by Brooklyn filmmaker Sharifa Williams, and the compelling short documentary Living with Tommy, about a young boy living with a rare condition, by Staten Island filmmaker Aubrey Carp.

The festival program will include a social media marketing workshop by producer Amy Greenlaw of FilmPOP! Brooklyn filmmaker Leah Meyerhoff will discuss how to transition from making short films to features.
A brunch and awards ceremony are also scheduled to take place.

Films are “in competition” and the audience will vote for best feature and best short, spanning all genres.
