Have you ever taken a book into your hands for the first time and just wanted to take a bite out of it? Be warned, Shauna Sever’s Marshmallow Madness might induce this reaction. The cover, which shows a pastel array of sweet powdered confections, is actually, itself, puffy. It is, simply, adorable, and that’s before you’ve even opened the pages.

Inside are all the instructions one might need to make dozens of puffy treats, including tricks for tools and tricks for working with sugar over heat. Unusual flavors include sea salt caramel swirl, honeyed apricot and chocolate malt. The photos, by Leigh Beisch, are divine.

Sever, of San Francisco, will be hosting a demo event at The Brooklyn Kitchen on Thursday, March 8, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Williamsburg.Author Shauna Sever. Photo by Leigh Beisch

The theme of the event will be happy hour, as she will be demonstrating one of her mallows with booze, the Crème de Menthe, of which participants will receive sample mallows. It should be a bunch of fun! The price of the event ($25) includes a copy of the book.

Sever writes the baking and dessert blog Piece of Cake and also runs the Bake Sale Bakery, a dessert-catering business.
