The Brooklyn Eagle recently reported that Green-Wood Cemetery was in negotiation to buy the landmark McGovern Weir florist shop, formerly the Weir Greenhouse, at 25th Street and Fifth Avenue. The cemetery has now closed on the property and intends to restore it and turn it into a visitors center. Even a casual glance at the 19th century building, especially its green dome and roof, shows that it has deteriorated significantly in recent years. Much of its wooden framework is rotting, and entire panes of glass are gone.
