Gonzalez distributes hundreds of turkeys in Sunset Park
Recognizing that the recent economic downturn will most severelyimpact lower income families and their plans for Thanksgiving,Councilwoman Sara M. González once again organized a turkey driveto benefit those district residents who are most in need.Hundreds
of families throughout Council District 38 who may not haveenjoyed Thanksgiving with the traditional turkey on the table cannow partake of the full feast.
Councilwoman González has organized a turkey drive every yearsince she took office meaning that thousands of families in herDistrict have enjoyed better Thanksgiving dinners. This year theCouncilwoman partnered with the Brooklyn Arts Council and theyreached out to local businesses and individuals who generouslydonated to the drive.
Councilwoman González wishes to express her heartfeltappreciation on behalf of the community to the following: Alex’sMeats and Provisions; Alma Bank; Dominican Car Service; EdgarAlvarez; Health Plus; Mexicana Car Service; Sunset Park B.I.D.; TDBank; Delvis Valdes and Joni Yoswein.
Many of the donors gathered at the Councilwoman’s DistrictOffice to assist in the distribution as representatives fromnumerous schools, churches and community organizations dropped byto take turkeys for the people they serve.
Particularly in tough times like these, it is greatlyencouraging to see community members step up to help theirneighbors in need. Not only did our donors contribute by supplyingturkeys, but some came by to help in the distribution and to sharein the joy of giving. As we enter the holiday season, it brings mehope that while this might be
a moment of great uncertainty for our City and our Nation, byappealing to our better angels, we will get through this by pullingtogether. When my family and I sit down for Thanksgiving dinner, Iwill offer thanks for being in a position to help my community. Iwill offer special gratitude for the kind spirit of the BrooklynArts Council and for the generosity that dwells in the hearts ofthese outstanding community members who made it possible forhundreds of families to share in our honored tradition,Councilwoman González said.
