A community forum will be held at Shore Hill to discuss theeffects of the payroll tax implemented by the MetropolitanTransportation Authority (MTA) on commuters and employers doingbusiness within the five boroughs, Long Island and Westchester,Dutchess, Putnam, Orange and Rockland counties.

The forum – scheduled for 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday,October 25 – is being hosted by Assemblymember Nicole Malliotakisand will also be attended by the Assembly Minority SteeringCommittee, which partners with and advocates for local governmentand civic groups.

Instead of creating a friendly environment for our businesses tothrive and succeed, New York State imposed the MTA payroll tax, said Malliotakis, who added that she hopes that the forum bringingprivate schools, businesses and civic leaders together with stateleaders will result in a course of action to repeal the penaltyonce and for all.

It has been a little over two years since the MTA implemented thetax – called the Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Mobility Tax- on employers whose quarterly payroll exceeds $2,500 andself-employed workers who earn over $10,000 a year.
