New 3-D mammographies available at Lutheran

Mammograms for Brooklyn women just got even more accurate withthe addition of a new 3-D digital mammography machine at LutheranMedical Center on 55th Street in southwest Brooklyn. Lutheran isthe first health care system in Brooklyn to offer this type oftechnology to patients.

The technology is called breast tomosynthesis and it enablesradiologists to identify and analyze individual breast structureswithout getting confused by overlapping tissues.

The new equipment arrived late this summer after being purchasedfrom a company called Hologic, with funds made available with helpfrom the City Council.
