Free Air Conditioners Available Until September

Thousands of New Yorkers have been rushing to the nearestcooling center, senior center, public library and swimming pool toescape the heat. Now they have a chance to cooltheir home with a free air conditioner.

The free, citywide emergency cooling program is aimed atlow-income, sick and elderly residents who do not already have aworking home air conditioner.

It will run through September or until funding runs out. InBrooklyn, the machines will come courtesy of the Sunset ParkRedevelopment Committee and the Community Environmental Center.

Submission guidelines include documentation of proof of medicalneed, proof of income ($49,000 per year for a family of four), andproof of being a HEAP/PA/SSI/food-stamp recipient. You must alsohave landlord authorization for installation.
