The BWBA will honor past President Mirman and Judge Edwards at annual gala

RED HOOK — The Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association recently announced that it will once again host its annual gala at the Liberty Warehouse in Red Hook on Thursday, May 18.

This year’s honorees are well known to Brooklyn Eagle readers: Past President Michele Mirman and Hon. Genine Edwards.

Mirman is an accomplished attorney with over 40 years of experience, specializing in personal injury, medical malpractice, and civil rights litigation. She has been actively involved in various bar associations throughout her career, including serving as president of the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association.

During her time in this role, she would have contributed to the organization’s mission to promote the advancement of women in the legal profession and advocate for gender equality and women’s rights.

More recently, Mirman has become involved with the Brooklyn Women’s Bar Association Foundation, and she worked with Hon. Sylvia Hinds-Radix, the Corporation Counsel for NYC, another BWBA past president, to create a scholarship in Judge Hinds-Radix’s name.

Justice Edwards has been one of the BWBA’s most consistently active members over the last decade. A St. John’s University School of Law graduate, Justice Edwards was first elected to the Civil Court bench in 2006, and was elected to the Supreme Court in 2016.Prior to her time as a judge, she worked in private practice, served as a staff attorney for the NYS Power Authority, and was an assistant corporation counsel at the NYC Law Department.

The two honorees will be presented with their plaques at the Liberty Warehouse by current president Susan Mauro. Mirman will be given the Beatrice M. Judge Award, and Justice Edwards will receive the Sybil Hart Kooper Award.
