The new Potbelly Sandwich Shop celebrated its grand opening last week at 345 Adams St. in Downtown Brooklyn.

Brooklyn resident Melonee Gilchrist, who has been with Potbelly since December 2011 and in the food industry for 15 years, is the general manager.

“We are looking forward to bringing Potbelly to Brooklyn,” said Gilchrist. “I’ve lived in Brooklyn for more than 20 years and the development of the area has been dramatic — which we are proud to be a part of.”

At its opening, the store shared proceeds with Children of Promise, a Brooklyn-based non-profit whose mission is to embrace the children of incarcerated parents.

This is the first Potbelly to open in Brooklyn and its staff totals more than 27 employees and managers. New York Design Architects designed the 2,200-square-foot space.

Said Gilchrist, “We go to great lengths to make our shops special by procuring local artifacts that reflect the neighborhood of each shop.”

John Epifanio from Potbelly handled the lease transaction along with Newmark Grubb Knight Frank Retail’s Benjamin Birnbaum. The landlord, Muss Development, was represented by Ariel Schuster and Brian Segal.
