Good morning. Today is the 276th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle for Oct. 2, 1902, reported that William Dickinson, an alderman (what we would call a councilman today) from Williamsburg, was arrested on charges of bribery. No money was involved – rather, he promised Sanitation Commissioner John McGraw Woodbury that he would vote for measures that the commissioner requested, such as the approving a new sanitation plant, if Woodbury would hire several of his constituents.

Well-known people who were born today include Brooklyn-born actress Lorraine Bracco (“The Sopranos,” “Goodfellas”), singer-songwriter Don McLean (“American Pie”), movie critic Rex Reed, singer-songwriter Sting and motorcycle designer Paul Teutul Jr. (“American Chopper”).
