State University of New York (SUNY) Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher on Tuesday commended 36 SUNY campuses on being recognized as "military friendly" by top-rated national military publication, G.I. Jobs Magazine, and more than 20 campuses to be ranked among the nation's top colleges and universities by U.S. News & World Report.

"SUNY is a leader in assisting military personnel in the transition to civilian life after their service to our country, and we take great pride in providing New York's returning service men and women with higher education," said Chancellor Zimpher.

"As we continue to work with Governor Cuomo to position SUNY and New York to lead in affordability, access, and quality, and President Obama puts these issues into focus nationally, we are also proud to be ranked favorably by U.S. News & World Report again this year," she said.

More than 20 SUNY campuses were ranked among the top colleges and universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report. Top spots include three campuses named "Top Public Regional Universities" in the North; nine in top 100 "Best Regional Universities" in the North; and recognition of SUNY students graduating with some of the least debt in the country.

G.I. Jobs Magazine is positioned for men and women who are transitioning from military to civilian life. It provides education, transition assistance, and job opportunities. The Military Friendly Schools media and website, found at www.militaryfriendlyschools.com, feature interactive tools to help military students find the best school to suit their unique needs.
