High school students and their mentors celebrated a year of successful “iMentoring” on Saturday with games, lunch from Panera, and fun activities like funny dress up and T-shirt making at a picnic in Cadman Plaza Park, Downtown Brooklyn.

In this innovative program, volunteer mentors and their student partners communicate by email and meet in person once a month, following a set curriculum with college as the end goal. The program supports schools made up of primarily low-income students.

iMentor connects more than 2,000 high school kids with mentors every year. Mentors report that many of them stay in touch with their mentees long after the program ends.
