Students at Brooklyn’s Explore Charter School tops in ‘Progress’
When it comes to student progress, Brooklyn’s Explore Charter School is tops among city schools. The Flatbush charter made more progress than any other K-8 public school in New York City this year, according to annual progress reports the city released this week.
Explore received an overall grade of A this year, up from a C last year. Explore students across every grade made great gains—86 percent of students met state standards in math, up from 67 percent last year, and 53 percent met English standards, up from 41 percent.
“Ten years ago we set out to show that all children can achieve at high levels regardless of where they grow up and I couldn’t be prouder of the progress we’re making towards that goal,” said Explore Schools founder and CEO Morty Ballen. “We are constantly evaluating ourselves and last year we took a hard look at the areas where our students were struggling and set out to tackle those challenges. The hard work of our staff, parents and students is reflected in the great gains we made.”
