RELIGION: Organists’ Guild hosts tour of Bed-Stuy churches

Brooklyn Daily Eagle

The organs and architecture of churches in Bedford-Stuyvesant will be featured in the annual Bach to Brooklyn Organ Tour.

The American Guild of Organists-Brooklyn Chapter sponsors this tour each September. The 2012 Bach to Brooklyn will include visits to Brown Memorial Baptist Church (which straddles neighboring Clinton Hill); St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, St. Philip’s Episcopal; Church, Our Lady of Victory Roman Catholic Church and the Bridge Street African Wesleyan Methodist Episcopal Church.

The Bridge St. AWME Church was featured in this paper last week after being awarded a $6,500 Landmarks Conservancy Grant.

Noted tour guide Andrew Dolkart, author of “Landmarks of New York City,” will return by popular demand to present a talk on architectural and historic points of interest for each church and their surrounding neighborhood. The tour includes a demonstration of the pipe organ at each of the featured churches.

The tour runs from 9:30 a.m.3 p.m., with a starting point of Brown Memorial Church on Washington Ave. between Fulton St. and Gates Ave. For more information and to register, visit the Brooklyn chapter’s website,
