Outbreak of Violence Leaves Three Dead, Two Wounded in Brooklyn

Three Brooklynites are dead and two are wounded following a rash of violence in the borough on Tuesday that included four shootings and a stabbing, police sources told the Eagle and the Daily News.

All of the shootings transpired during one bloody hour of the unseasonably balmy evening. The succession of assaults began at 7:12 p.m. when an 18-year-old woman was shot in the leg on Stone Avenue near the Howard Houses in Brownsville. Her attacker, who police describe as a black man wearing all-gray clothing, was seen fleeing the scene in a black Cadillac, according to the News. The victim is listed in stable condition at Kings County Hospital, police sources told the New York Post.

Roughly half an hour after the Brownsville shooting, two teenagers were shot at St. John’s Park in Crown Heights by an unknown assailant. Daquan Weston, 18, was shot four times and police sources told the Eagle that he was declared dead on arrival at Kings County Hospital. The other victim, a 15-year-old, was shot in the knee and is in stable condition, according to police sources.

At 8:20 p.m., 21-year-old Jaquan Webb was shot multiple times at Fort Greene’s Ingersoll Houses. Webb was taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he died. The Ingersoll shooting was Fort Greene’s second murder in two weeks, as well as its second this year, according to The Local. The 88th Precinct, which covers Fort Greene and Clinton Hill, has now matched its total of two recorded homicides for all of 2011.

Hours before the night’s wave of shootings, at approximately 3:45 p.m., a 20-year-old man was fatally stabbed in the chest in the lobby of a Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment building on Putnam Avenue, according to the Post. He was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

Excepting the shootings of the two teens in Crown Heights, none of Tuesday's several attacks are presumed to be related and no arrests have been made in connection with any of them at press time.
