Not your father’s drive-in: ‘Bike-In Theater’ may return to Brooklyn
Last July, film buffs Jason Anello and Anna Boyarsky put a Brooklyn twist on the classic drive-in experience by hosting a free ‘Bike-In Theater’ night in Williamsburg.
Hundreds of riders parked their bikes against a wall, sat on blankets and watched a movie projected onto the side of a waterfront warehouse. In keeping with the artisonal vibe, the movie snacks included gourmet-flavored popcorn from Brooklyn’s Forking Tasty kitchen.
This year the two colleagues (they both work at a company called Manifold) want to expand on the idea. So they’ve started a Kickstarter campaign to raise the funds to go bi-coastal, with one showing in New York City and another in San Francisco, where Boyarsky lives. With 14 days to go as of Thursday, the two have raised $8,220 out of a total goal of $24,000.
