Nets to host Russian culture event at Barclays during Pacers game

The Brooklyn Nets will host An Evening of Russian Culture, presented by Aeroflot–Russian Airlines, when the team faces the Indiana Pacers on Sunday, January 13, Old Russian New Year’s Eve, at Barclays Center. Game time is 6 p.m.

Aeroflot is Russia’s leading air carrier and among Russia’s most recognized brands.

The Brooklyn Nets will celebrate Russia’s culture and entertainment during the game. World-renowned violinist Alexander Markov will perform the American National Anthem and then play another selection at halftime. Before the game, Russian entertainer Oleg Kolomyets will introduce the starting players to the crowd in Russian. Russian music will also be played during the game, along with other in-game entertainment.

As a special addition, the Nets will offer a fan giveaway of two round-trip tickets to Moscow on Aeroflot, as well as five nights in a hotel.

The event marks the second Evening of Russian Culture held by the Nets since Mikhail Prokhorov purchased the team in May 2010.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate Russia’s rich culture with our fans,” said Irina Pavlova, president of Onexim Sports and Entertainment, Mr. Prokhorov’s company which oversees the team. “The Brooklyn Nets continue to receive significant interest from both the local and international Russian communities and we are looking forward to giving all of our visitors to Barclays Center on Sunday a taste of Russia.”

In addition to introducing elements of Russian culture to their fans, the Nets are continuing their goal of bringing Russian speaking fans closer to their team. In December 2010 the Nets launched www.netsrussia.com, a Russian language website that offers Nets related content translated into Russian, such as game recaps, photographs, video, and ticket information. In addition, 12 games this season are being broadcast on Viasat Sport television in Russia.
