Narrows Community Theater, Inc., a Bay Ridge-based theater company famous for presenting revivals of Broadway musicals, is venturing into the world of office politics with its next production. The company will present “9 to 5: The Musical” at Saint Patrick’s Church Auditorium, Fourth Avenue and 97th Street, on Fridays and Saturdays, May 10, 11, 17, and 18 at 8 p.m. and on Sundays May 12 and 19 at 2 p.m.

With music and lyrics by country music superstar Dolly Parton and a book by Patricia Resnick, “9 To 5: The Musical” is based on the 1980 hit movie, “Nine to Five’ and is the hilarious tale of three female co-workers who challenge the glass-ceiling women faced in the early 1970’s when the feminist movement first began to take hold.  These three unlikely friends, an overworked office manager, a jilted woman, and an objectified secretary, join forces to get revenge on their sexist boss by devising a plan to take control of their company. In the process, they learn that there is nothing they cannot do, even in a man’s world.

Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Parton, played the three women in the movie.

The NCT production is directed by Christian Fleming, who earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drama from the prestigious Carnegie-Mellon University.  The show’s music director is Jonathan K. Parks. Lisa Kassay is the choreographer.

Tickets are $20.00 for adults and $15.00 for senior citizens, students under 21, and children. For more information contact Narrows Community Theater at 718-482-3173, email [email protected], or visit www.NarrowsCommunityTheater.com.
