It’s not everyday you get a fortune cookie that contains a marriage proposal. But that’s exactly what happened to Danielle Jabour, a real estate saleswoman from Bay Ridge. Her boyfriend, Manny Saviolakis, visited her on Christmas morning and presented her with a fortune cookie with a message inside that she’ll never forget.

“I got the best fortune ever!” Jabour said. The message inside the fortune cookie read, “Will You Marry Me, Kookla?”

Kookla, a word meaning “beautiful doll” in Greek, “is Manny’s pet name for me,” Jabour said. Saviolakis is of Greek descent.

Saviolakis, who works in his father’s restaurant, Anopoli, at 6920 Third Ave., had secretly arranged for the one-of-a-kind fortune to be inserted into the cookie.

Like her fiancé, Jabour also works in the family business. Her father, Wade Jabour, is the owner of Jabour Realty Co. at 8704 Third Ave., where she works.

The happy couple has something else in common: the Merchants of Third Avenue business organization. Danielle Jabour’s father is vice president of the Merchants and Saviolakis was honored as a Pioneer of Third Avenue a few years ago.

“We’re both active in the Merchants,” the bride-to-be said.

Both Jabour and Saviolakis were born and raised in Bay Ridge. “We have been friends for over 10 years and we have been dating for over two years,” Jabour said.

The couple plans to wed this coming September.
