Looks like a fare hike is around the bend
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s board may soon consider a proposal that would increase base fares on subways and buses by a quarter, to $2.50, and raise the cost of a 30-day pass by $8, to $112, the New York Times and other sources report.
The increases would take effect in March, according to Bloomberg.com and are designed to net an annual $450 million in additional revenue to help fill projected budget deficits.
A spokesman for the state agency, however, said the figures were “premature.”
