Habitat for Humanity celebrates completion of St. John’s Residences

OCEAN HILL-BROWNSVILLE — Habitat for Humanity-New York City celebrated the completion of the St. John’s Residences in Ocean Hill-Brownsville with a ribbon-cutting last week. 
The 12-unit affordable condominium project is at 1812 St. John’s Place, between East New York and Saratoga Avenues.
It is the first of more than 100 Habitat-NYC homes to be built in Central Brooklyn with funding through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Neighborhood Stabilization Program Round 2. It also had support from the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office, Amalgamated Bank (construction loan) and the State of New York Mortgage Agency, which offered low-interest mortgages.
The condos are targeted to low-income working families earning between 50 and 80 percent of the city’s area median income. They are built to LEED and Energy Star green standards, for healthy, energy-efficient homes.
Habitat-NYC paid the city’s Housing Preservation and Development Department $12,000 for the land.
