State Sen. Marty Golden is helping senior citizens in his southern Brooklyn district welcome the holidays by hosting a series of festivals this week. The events, which Golden is calling “Holiday Senior Festivals,” will include Christmas tree trimmings, raffles with great prizes, entertainment and a free lunch.

Here’s when and where the “Holiday Senior Festivals” will take place: Wednesday, Dec. 18, from noon-3 p.m. at Saint Francis Cabrini Church in Bensonhurst, (Enter on 16th Ave between 86th St and Benson Ave.); Thursday, Dec. 19, noon-3 p.m. at Saint Patrick’s Church Auditorium, 9511-4th Ave. in Bay Ridge; and Friday, Dec. 20, noon-3 p.m. at Saint Edmund’s Preparatory High School, 2474 Ocean Ave. in Sheepshead Bay.

The events will also serve as collection sites to support the Toys for Tots campaign. Participants are asked to bring unwrapped toys that will be donated to the Toys for Tots campaign. The Toys for Tots organization distributes the gifts to children from underprivileged families to make their Christmas brighter.

Patriotic residents can also bring letters and cards for US servicemen and women serving overseas. Golden will mail them.

The festivals will consist of more than just the singing of “Jingle Bells” however.

Golden (R-C-Bay Ridge-southern Brooklyn) is combining business with pleasure. He has invited representatives from various city agencies, including the departments of Aging, Sanitation, Environmental Protection, Finance and Parks, as well as the police and fire departments, to come to the festivals to assist residents with city-related issues.

In addition, the festivals will provide free blood pressure screenings. Also, a truck will be parked outside each facility to offer free document shredding services.

“My staff and I are looking forward to this new event, scheduled around the holidays that will celebrate another great year in our community. This fair will provide an important venue for seniors to have an
afternoon of information, resources and fun, to get them into the holiday spirit,” Golden said.

“I am looking forward to the shredding truck to help get rid of some of those papers that clutter our lives that really should be shredded,” Golden added.

For more information on the senior events, call Golden’s office at 718-238-6044 or email [email protected].
