Brooklyn Today: September 24, 2012
Good morning. Today is the 268th day of the year. According to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Sept. 24, 1900, both political parties planned huge pre-election parades with fireworks, speeches, brass bands and so forth. Vice presidential candidate Theodore Roosevelt was apparently planning to come to the Brooklyn Republican parade himself.
Well-known people who were born today include Olympic gymnasts Morgan and Paul Hamm, singer Sheila MacRae, former baseball player Rafael Palmeiro and screenwriter Nia Vardalos (“My Big Fat Greek Wedding”).
