Good morning. Today is the 250th day of the year. On Sept. 6, 1902, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, Thomas Peterson, a postal clerk who lived on Henry Street in Carroll Gardens, dived into the East River to rescue steamfitter Edward Murphy of Manhattan, who was apparently trying to commit suicide. Murphy was seen jumping from a pier on East 42nd Street. Peterson was in the area, going to his workplace.

Well-known people who were born today include New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Brooklyn-born actress Rosie Perez (“White Men Can’t Jump”), comedienne Jo-Anne Worldy (“Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In) and journalist-author Jennifer Egan (“A Visit From the Goon Squad.”)
