Good morning. Today is the 258th day of the year. The September 14, 1902 issue of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle reported on a county fair sponsored by the Cortelyou Club, an organization of Flatbush businessmen. The main attraction was known as Kleine Deutschland, or “Little Germany.” However, just as Kleine Deutschland’s “Tyrolean Warblers” were preparing to sing, the pipe organ on a nearby carousel was heard full blast. The next day, Herman Raub, who ran both Kleine Deutschland and the Consumer’s Park brewery, brought along a 20-piece orchestra, but they were still drowned out by the carousel. In a huff, Raub removed all of his beer from the fair. At that point, the club agreed to restrict the carousel’s hours.

Well-known people who were born today include actress Zoe Caldwell (“The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie”), actress Joey Heatherton (“Cry baby”), Russina President Dmitry Medvedev and feminst author Kate Millett.
