Good morning. Today is the 291st day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of Oct. 16, 1901, quoted African-American Booker T. Washington’s comments about those residents of the Southern states who virulently objected to President Theodore Roosevelt’s inviting him to dinner at the White House. Washington said they didn’t represent the South as a whole, and hurt the cause of the South in the long run.

Well-known people who were born today include actor Barry Corbin (“Northern Exposure”), baseball player Juan Gonzalez, author Gunter Grass (“The Tin Drum” ‘Dog Years”), actress Angela Lansbury (“Murder, She Wrote’) and actor Tim Robbins (“Mystic River,” “The Player”).
