Good morning. Today is the 277th day of the year. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle of October 3, 1902, reported on the accidental death of a longshoreman who tumbled aboard at the dock at the foot of Summit Street. The man, who allegedly had been drinking, was removed with fish-hooks and taken by horse-drawn ambulance to Long Island College Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Well-known people who were born today include U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-New Mexico), singer Chubby Checker (“The Twist,” “Let’s Twist Again,” “Limbo Rock”), Hall of Fame baseball player Dennis Eckersley, actor Clive Owen (“Children of Men,” “Elizabeth,” The Golden Age”), and Hall of Fame baseball player Dave Winfield.
